iDC File Manager - The Original Release

Following a conversation i had last week with a friend of mine about the history of i Dot Communications and how it all started, it got me thinking…

When iDC File Manager was first released in March 2004 it was a small web based app with very limited functions, however it was clear from the start that it had massive potential.

So, to mark the release of the latest edition of iDC File Manager (version 1.4.04) i thought i would dig out the original version and post it in the Lab for you all to see.

Even i was surprised just how basic iDC File Manager v1.2 was compared with today’s mammoth application and just goes to show how much development work has been performed over the last two and half years.

We are back from vacation.

We are now back from vacation and things are back to 100% efficiency once more.

Currently we are working on finalising iDC Account Creation and the new Flash upload system - both should be launched by the end on September.

I am also currently trialing a better WYSIWYG html editor which will replace our current editor. This too should be included in the release at the end of September.

Thanks

Well it’s that time again…

So it’s now mid August and we are in need of a holiday.

Sadly, for the next 3 weeks while we are away, there will be no support until we return on September 5th, but ordering is still possible as this is controlled automatically.

iDC File Manager Hosting

Some great new to end the week with…

BlueHost.com have now been named as our approved iDC File Manager hosting provider.
We are frequently asked who we would recommend to host a copy of iDC File Manager, if the customer’s server was inadequate or they were just simply looking for an all round better host.

After careful consideration and testing of a number of hosts over the last 6 months we feel the hosting package provided by BlueHost is by far the best. Not just based on price or features provided, but also their superb technical support and their dynamic plans for the future.

Click here for more information if you are looking to host a dedicated copy of iDC File Manager or simply to host your web site:

OEM Version Success!

When we initially launched an OEM version of iDC File Manager, allowing users to custom brand their File Manager and remove all trace of the iDC File Manager name we were initially nervous that would loose brand profile, after all, no name equals no referral.

Oh, how wrong we were!

Our OEM version has sold and sold and sold and has become our best selling edition to date!   Thank you once again to all our customers who have purchased the OEM edition!

For any new or existing customers who are looking to buy an OEM edition we have now set up a specific OEM product page here:

Projects in the pipeline

Flash Upload system:

We are currently working on including a flash upload system into iDC File Manager. This will allow you to select multiple files for upload (something which is currently not possible in perl) and will also display the upload progress with a built in flash progress bar.

This upload system will also be able to be able to run under both the http and https (ssl) protocols.

Sign-up script:

After many requests for a File Manager “bolt on” script which will allow users to sign-up for their own File Manager accounts, we have finally developed iDC Account Creation. This system will run separately to iDC File Manager and will prompt users to complete an application form which when submitted will automatically create a File Manager user account.

This system is currently in Beta mode, and we plan to release some time in September 2006.

We finally have a blog…

Ok, we have now finished totally re-designing the i Dot Communications Website for the second time this year, first in March and then again in July. So it stands to reason that now we have a great new site that we should also get a new blog.

Here we are going to post loads of stuff - regular bloggy things, things that we come across and also news and announcements about i Dot Communications, the projects we are working on and the continued development of iDC File Manager.

So check back soon…
